Ojochal, Puerto Cortés, Osa, Puntarenas, Costa Rica
Cascada de Punta Mala is just 5 minutes south of Ojochal and 15 minutes south of the full-service town of Uvita. However, with a 20-minute drive from the Coastal highway, rising up to 490 meters (1600 feet), this farm is in cooler air and very secluded. The ridge of the farm is the most spectacular part because as the land falls away on either side of the ridge, the views are rendered spectacularly. There are about 8 house sites with ocean views, and several more in wooded areas. The forest protection surrounding the main building areas provides for a vast array of wildlife. There are Ocelots, wild Peccaries, a plague of Toucans, Swallow Tailed Kites, a local King Vulture, and of course loads of monkeys. Walk down from the ridge and you arrive at the Punta Mala River which runs for about 1 kilometer along the boundary of the property. One of the five large waterfalls along this stretch of river is approximately 100 meters (328 feet) high. The road along with a public water tube and electricity goes right to the edge of the property on the ridge. As you drive out of the farm and down the hill, you come to the Coastal highway where you are minutes from good hardware stores, great restaurants, dive shops, a gas station, grocery stores, a new hospital, and arguably the finest beaches in Costa Rica at Ventanas and Ballena (see pictures).
