BUY?

Thousands of foreigners have bought a house or condo in Costa Rica, but that doesn’t mean you should. Buying is relatively quick and in Costa Rica’s real estate market it can possibly bring you an impressive return on your investment. However, investing in property always carries with it an element of risk, especially when the property is in a developing country. Investing in real estate should be approached as at least a medium-term exercise. Also, from another angle, buying a finished home or condo from a developer or previous owner is more expensive than if you were to build it yourself, meaning that your return on investment will be smaller than if you build. Buying, therefore, is a decision you should make only after careful consideration.
