Crime and Security

The residents of Dominical, Uvita and Ojochal have worked hard to increase security and prevent crime in the area. A number of years ago a gang of Costa Ricans and Colombians reportedly started robbing houses in the area. The problem was that there wasn’t even a police station or policeman stationed in the area to stop them.

Led by local Mike McGuiness, the community chipped in for a police station. Now several officers, six motorbikes, and two squad cars are stationed in the area. The community has also employed a former police officer from San Isidro as a full-time private security guard.

There is still crime in the area, just like anywhere else, but the local community is particularly vigilant and seems to be successfully keeping a lid on it.
