Conclusion

This brief chapter doesn’t begin to capture the many facets of life in Costa Rica, nor is it an exhaustive list of everything you should consider before deciding to move here. Each person’s situation is distinct and everyone who lives here has a slightly different take on the country. Your next step is to book a flight to the country. And while you’re here you might want to think about visiting Panama and Nicaragua, two other countries that have become popular choices for expatriates. Land prices in those countries are lower than in Costa Rica, and Panama offers a number of incentives designed to lure people to move there. (In Nicaragua, the recent election of Daniel Ortega to the presidency has some potential investors on edge, and the decisions he’s made so far have not inspired confidence.) But even if, like many people, you end up choosing Costa Rica over Panama and Nicaragua, your trips to those countries will have been valuable; you will have had a chance to see the two countries that neighbor your new home.

It goes without saying that selling your house, packing up your belongings, and moving to Costa Rica is a major step. So, we suggest that you read everything you can about he country, visit here as often as your schedule allows, ask lots of questions … and take your time.
